With only one other Thai restaurant in town, I was very happy to find out the closed Porta's had been replaced by BPJ's. Upon entering, the scene was a little chaotic: unbussed tables, waitresses running around, etc. We were quickly seated, however and given menus. The selection was very impressive, they even had a section for northern Thai cuisine where I quickly found and ordered khao soi. In addition, I also ordered som tam. My co-worker ordered the mango curry without any spiciness. The waitress was not sure if that was possible, I assured my friend that it was. When the food arrived, the waitress apologized and informed us that the curry could not be made so that there is no spiciness, but the chef did make her curry the lowest heat level possible. This was the first big red flag, I have never been to a Thai restaurant where you had to have your food spicy. The som tam was okay, a bit on the sweet side, not too tart or salty. The khao soi tasted okay at the start, rich curry flavor, but had a spicy finish. My co-worker's mango curry had, surprisingly, an even spcier finish than my khao soi. In fact, it was too spicy for my friend to finish, which was very disappointing. The service was, needless to say, very chaotic and poorly organized. The waitresses didn't know the menu, they asked that everyone order by numbers, and it was very obvious they had very little waitressing experience, very little efficiency in their movements between the kitchen and dining area. The poorly trained staff and subsequent poor service was the second big red flag. Decided to return a week later, figuring the kinks would have been worked out. Unfortunately, I was very, very wrong. I went early, thinking I would avoid the rush, didn't help. Although I was seated quickly, there was a long wait before I was able to order. I decided for something safe: chicken pad thai and the fried tofu appetizer. The pad thai came out first, after about 45 minutes! I sat there waiting for my order as several parties came in, were seated and then left after waiting for menus, waiting to have their order taken, or waiting for their food. It was almost laughable since the people who already received their food were in essence 'trapped'. By the time my pad thai arrived, a second waitress had started working and the owner (an elderly lady) had also appeared. The service did get marginally better, but still very disorganized. A half hour after finishing my pad thai, which was average by the way, I was still waiting for my appetizer. The owner finally came by, asked if I was still waiting, and the quickly brought out another order of chicken pad thai. I informed her I was waiting for my appetizer and so the pad thai was taken away and a fried tofu was brought out shortly after. It was such a circus! Overall, the food is solid-ly average. It is a bit curious that you cannot get dishes without any spiciness to them, it makes you think they prepped A LOT before hand. The prices are decent considering the nearest asian market is about 2 hours away. What really ruined this reataurant for me however was the service. I understand if there are a few kinks to work out for a grand opening, but this was a little too much. I guess if you have the time and heat tolerance, BPJ's is a good place for Thai in the Coos Bay/North Bend area.

I bit into a piece of glass. After i waved my arms and got someones attention, i was ignored. Then after i pushed my food away from in front myself then i walked across the restraunt and gave the owner (elder lady) the piece of glass and told her that i bit this and it hurt my mouth. She brought it to the kitchen and came back saying it must of been a rock outta my rice. I didnt eat the rice. When i asked for it back she said it had been thrown away. Then she charged me for the meal. I eat out alot and i will never go back there.

We are from Portland and we love Thai and this place is worth going to! It was really good. My pad Thai was excellent. The service is average for for a Thai place. If you want really fast service go to a fast food restaurant. My friend had the masaman curry and he loved it, it was the perfect balance of spice and flavor. Overall it was clean and welcoming.

There are only 2 Thai restaurants in our area , and this was the first time I ate here. I read some of the reviews and they said service was sketchy. I was not there at a peak hour so our service was great. The food was far better then our other thai place, and portions were fine. I ordered thai hot and that's what I got , however I didn't care for the salad rolls. They had tofu instead of shrimp and we're doubled wrapped so they were to doughy. A little bit pricey for noodles but I would go back for flavor.

So I'm not much of a review writer but I will for this place. Besides how long they take for preparing your meal this place is great! But seriously set a side at least an hour for this place. The food is extremely tasty! And I still go back there A LOT! If you want great food go here! Update: shrimp and tofu curry is to die for!

Fantastic Thai food. Clean and well appointed. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

I'm starting with two stars missing, one for service and the other for food. Service is always polite and whichever owner is manning the kitchen, she'll often come out and personally check on the tables. However, they tend to have an inexperienced, young staff waiting tables that often miss a few steps in proper service. The food is overall good and some dishes are outstanding, like the Tom Kah soup and a pumpkin Pad Thai that you can get this time of year. Many of the dishes are Pat's recipes from her former restaurant in Winchester Bay, which was my all time favorite Thai restaurant. This is the reason for not giving that second star. I can't put my finger on why, but the food was just better when she was operating her restaurant in Winchester Bay. But she's no longer in business for herself, so I'll happily enjoy some of my favorites at Thai Gourmet.

I go here for the Salad Rolls. The Duck Curry is tasty as well. The service can be spotty and they also have long wait times for food. Come in when you have the extra time to enjoy.

I have eaten here a few times. Yes the service is a bit sketchy. The food is good though. And it has a nice atmosphere. Welcome to Coos County.

I love this place! Great quality food prepared especially for you. Because it is prepared especially for you, it does take a little longer to get but well worth the wait my friends! Pad tai and salad rolls are among my many favorites. If you are into spicy, you'll love the menu as well.

Family wanted to try Thai. I'm not a huge fan, but went with an open mind. It was slowwww. Took at least a half hour to get our food, and the place wasn't even that crowded. Two entrees came out quickly and the other two about 5 minutes later. My food was fine. I wouldn't say I was wowed by it. My family who really likes Thai was not eager to return. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

I have taken to eating here once a week. Pad Thai is the bomb. Tried duck and prawns. Spring rolls are great, less happy with Salad rolls. Deep fried shrimp were excellent and the stuffed chicken wings were the best of all appetizers I have had. As to the "slow" service, the front of the menu (apparently not the place to put this issue) says the service is "slow" because they make each meal individually and not prepared ahead of time. Bring a magazine or order ahead. Apparently conversation is a lost art. the food is the best I have had since moving here (although the BBQ-Alder house is close). I haven't tried other Asian places so I don't know how prices compare but quantities are plentiful and Thai is easy to warm up.

Probably the best Thai I've ever had. We had 5 people in our party. We got 5 different things and every single thing was out of this world amazing. Every one of us agreed we had found out new favorite restaurant. We will be back many more times.

I agree with Nicole - the service is TERRIBLE! my husband and I went for lunch. There were 2 other tables with 2 people each. We sat there for a very long time before owner/waitress came to take our order or even bring water. We waited for what seemed to be an eternity. Finally, she brought my husband's plate. I told him to go ahead & eat ... Could not believe I sat there for over 5+ minutes before mine came. So, essentially we each ate alone. :( As I was finishing, my husband moved his plate, on top of a placemat, and discovered a small LIVE cockroach! Okay, big turnoff! Not only that, but there was no tea or soup offered and the plate was sparse with food - left still hungry. :( So, if I could do less than 1, I would. I wrote this primarily for the tourists who are seeking thai food - go to EZ Thai instead.

"Wahoo! As good as it gets!" is right on. This is your basic, family friendly Thai with lots of kick from Thailand. The only white people where the people eating there.

great food under $20 I eat there about 5 times a month and never had an issue with the service, they are attentive about more rice and drinks. The food is awesome. My first visit I had a lunch special stir fry it was just ok, next time I had a curry dish and it was GREAT, I love the avocado curry and pumpkin curry. The duck is wonderful. good thing I don't live closer I'd be huge. Overall my favorite food in the county

We tried it again, and I was disappointed. The server (an American guy) was loud and inept; he took phone calls for orders whilst waiting on 2 or 3 tables, and every bit of the conversations could be heard throughout the restaurant. He couldn't figure out which foods we were asking about without consulting the menu for the number of the entree or appetizer. Pad Thai was again mediocre with little complexity. No egg, no hint of sweetness, etc. The Pad See Ew noodles were not inch-wide rice noodles, but something thinner, and they were inconsistently cooked, with uncooked spots in places. The best part of our meal was the Massamun Curry, which was OK, but still lacking in complexity of flavors. I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, was once again rebuffed.

Service was very dissapointing. But, with a table of 6 we got to try a lot of different meals such as the Drunken Noodles, The Duck Curry, and more. The food was very tasty and had a lot of flavors that we all enjoyed. I honestly wouldn't go back and spend the money though. Take out woud work best. Nights out are important to a working mom and to have bad service, makes me not want to go back.

Bad service, no music, it's awkwardly quiet in the restaurant. Awful, rude service. We won't be returning.

Great Thai food. We come down to North Bend 4 times a year for work and will eat here every trip. Tom Kha soup is the best I've had. Service was good and food had the perfect amount of spice for me. No complaints.

We were excited to try a new restaurant in town! I had read the reviews about service issues so we went early to avoid any rush on service. (Also I was really hungry and didn't want to wait). We were the only ones there at that time so, mission accomplished! Honestly, I was hungry enough that I didn't spend a lot of time looking through the menu. Although from the once over I gave it, there were several dishes I am interested in like the savory ribs, several of the soups and the drunken noodles. I ended up ordering the Honey Ginger Duck. I have a weakness for duck and was very excited how many options had duck available. My husband got the duck curry. Now I love duck but I am frequently disappointed by it. Not so here! My duck was very well cooked. Delicious crispy skin with moist meat inside. The sauce was good. By the end the sweetness started to get a bit overbearing but not too bad. My husband enjoyed the curry. He got medium spiciness and I would hate to taste the spicy version! It was almost too spicy but it managed to just ride that line of having good heat but not obliterating the other flavors which accented the dish very well. It was bit heavy on the pineapple. He said he felt it was added as more of a filler and didn't really add much to the dish. The Thai iced tea was really good. All in all it was good food. The prices were high for what you get but not surprising for this area. Even with only two of us in the restaurant, the service still managed to be a bit inattentive. We finished eating and were sitting and had our card on the table edge and the server still walked past about four times before asking if we were finished. But the staff were polite and gracious. I liked it better than EZ Thai. However, the four star rating here is definitely location dependent. If this restaurant were in a more competitive area it would not rate this high.

Took my family (5 of us) there last night for my father-in-law's birthday dinner. If it was possible to give less than 1 star, I would certainly give it in this case. Worst service I think I've ever experienced and the food was mediocre at best (very salty). There were very few people in the restaurant when we walked at 6:20. We were told to seat ourselves and it was a significant amount of time before the waitstaff came over to the table. The most frustrating part of the experience was the extremely long wait time for our food. In fact, once 3 of the dinners (for the adults) were brought to the table, as we were nearly finished eating, the owner came out to ask us about the dinner we had ordered for our children. They hadn't even began cooking the dinner we had ordered for our kids. By the time the last dinner finally arrived, everyone else at the table had completely finished their dinner. Totally unacceptable. In addition, neither the waitstaff or the owner made any apologies about the lateness of the third dinner. Our appetizers were incorrect as well. The food was very salty and the flavor was not worth the price. 4 dinner plus a tip for $80+, not worth it. If you've lived in Coos Bay long, you've noticed how quickly restaurants come and go. This one will certainly not be here long. I've heard from other locals that the service has been terrible since the restaurant opened. This is not a case of a new restaurant opening, it is a case of poor management.

Mixed emotions. Generally I think the good is pretty good. Price is about average for Thai. I tend to agree that the service is haphazard. If they could only get coordinated, this would be a 4 Star. Can only recmd this place if you have ALOT of time to kill.
